Pandora Hero

Manufactured by a company you have probably never heard of, the Pantech Pandora Sky will be sold exclusively in Korea.

The Pandora caught my attention solely because of one feature. It has a gesture, touch pad just bellow the screen. No manufacturer has paired a gesture pad with a touch screen before.

Pantech say that this gesture pad can be used for to interact with the file library, card organizer, confidential financial book library and to drag and drop picture files. How, I have no idea. I also don’t know what a ‘confidential financial book library’ is but it doesn’t make it any less cool.

The English gestures that will be available are: C for camera, P for player and M for message. Yes, Samsung has something similar on some of their touch screen phones (S8300 Jet) but the Samsungs don’t look half as cool as this!

They Pandora features, Sky Home, which allows you to have four different home screens that are widget enabled. The preloaded widgets are messaging, photo library and notes.

It is running a proprietary OS, which looks like the lovechild of Google’s Android and Samsung’s Bada. It comes preloaded with quite a few apps, but chances are there will be little if any downloadable apps.

Not to worry, it covers the standard smart phone basses as well, its rather slim at 9.1mm, has a 3.0” WQVGA touch screen, WiFi, Multitasking and 3G HSDPA. It comes with 206MB built in memory wihc is expandible via microSD. The camera is a bit disappointing at only 3 megapixels.

The Pandora will be available in black, white, silver and pink.

The chances of you ever getting a hold of one of these are slim and that’s probably for the better, but you can’t deny that this is a very cool device.
