Gears of War 3 Wallpaper 1

The Gears of War series is by far the largest grossing and fastest growing title on Xbox 360. The previous two releases were sensational. The characters were epic, the fighting was engrossing, storyline thrilling and the graphics were nothing short of fantastic.

I am able to announce that the final instalment, Gears of War 3, is no different from the previous 2. By that I mean it is still phenomenal. The obvious changes being the storyline, playing as Cole for a while and having a few new weapons. All the changes a great game should have, that is, not fixing what isn’t broken.

The storyline continues on from the previous as Marcus, Sam, Cole and the others continue on their Locust destruction path. Marcus learns that his father may still be alive and also have the means to save humanity. The COG’s are also left leaderless and have to fend for themselves. Yet, a third alien faction, the infected Lambent, emerges and becomes a threat. Complicating issues as human and locusts have to put their battle on pause to face the much more powerful infected Lambent. This all seems a little convoluted but nothing is more thrilling, in terms of gaming, than fighting two different enemies who are also fighting each other all at once.

The gameplay is the same, hence still awesome. There are one or two cool events that give a break in gameplay. One of which is running through some enemies with Cole believing that he is playing American football and the football being a bomb. Awesome. You spin around one enemy and sidestep another jump over debris and plant the bomb at the base of a Lambent spawner. Cole then celebrates a great “touchdown” by standing in front of the bomb, turned to face the “crowd” arms raised and then: Boom! Games that are serious but don’t take themselves seriously are by far the most entertaining.

Which brings me to my next point, Gears of War is entertaining in all aspects. It’s comedic, action-packed, engorging, and addictive and whatever happens in the game it always feels: grand and massive.

This grand and massive feel is exactly what any final instalment should be about. Gears of War 3 hasn’t cut any corners in production and thus is incredible as a standalone game let alone a finality to two amazingly established titles.

Gears of War 3 is superb and for any fan sleep outside the store the day before it releases it will be worth it. For any new time Gears of War gamer I’ll bet that you will go out and buy the entire series.
