ABSA proudly, if a little belatedly, revealed their on-line Banking App for Android and Apple iPhone devices today in Johannesburg. ABSA is the last of the South African big banks to launch their mobile App.
The ABSA App will be of huge benefit to all the ABSA customers with smart devices. ABSA said the App would be the first real, native financial services App for smartphones and tablets in South Africa available for both retail and business customers.
â€œThis means our App is optimised for smartphone and tablet screens and encompasses a visually rich interface,â€ explains Arrie Rautenbach, Absa Head of Retail Banking.
The App provides access to a built-in video tutorial that will assist customers on a journey of learning. Says Rautenbach: â€œThe App gives users of smartphones and tablet devices easy access to their accounts in those â€˜in-betweenâ€™ moments when they have a moment before their train arrives or just before the ad breaks.â€
â€œThe new technology, which also integrates seamlessly with all other ABSA digital banking channels incorporates many aspects of traditional transactional services, whilst combining smart device features such as your GPS location to allow for easy and instant search to the closest ABSA branch or ATM,â€ continues Rautenbach.
The App also utilises the devices contacts to make the sending of airtime or cash to friends and family quick and easy. This is just the first version of the App with a critical Blackberry OS7 App coming in the next eight weeks and Blackberry 10 following on thereafter.
The ABSA App is a full function App with all the needed, and required, elements of a good banking App. In the short time I was able to interact with the App, I found it finger friendly and easy to use. I was able to make payments, transfer money to others, and between accounts, quickly and easily.
There were minor user interface elements that could potentially be a little confusing. I do think that most users will take very little time to learn what they want to do on the App, and get down to business.
A unique feature that may prove very useful, was the ability to have the App linked to multiple profiles from one device. If, for example, there was one tablet in a house or office that was used for mobile banking, then that device could be linked to multiple ABSA banking profiles. This works with both business and private profiles, so many users can all use the same device and App securely.
If you bank with ABSA and you have an Android or iPhone device, shoot on over the App store and download the App. It will make your banking fully mobile and much more convenient.
