Sony has created four R90 million portable HD (High Definition) broadcasting vans for the 2010 Fifa Soccer World Cup. These vans will transmit every Ronaldo step over and every Luka Modric goal, to your living room in High Definition.
Your first impression is that it looks like the break room of the Starship Enterprise, just after you will notice that the HD van is very, very big, it has four interconnected rooms that are filled with Sony LCD screens, buttons and leavers that we were not supposed to touch, but we sort of did anyway. Each van has its own video department, sound department, colour mixing department and of course broadcasting department.
After the game, when it’s time to go home, the HD van is able to half its size by folding up the floors where all of the crew consisting of sound engineers, video engineers, producers, executive producers and broadcasters stand during a production.
It is good to see that the finishing touches are being put into place for the world’s premier event, and with the vans being used in the dress rehearsal of the Confederations cup, we are looking forward to see every HD moment of drama in the upcoming tournament.
