Gaming: What’s Hot This March

March 2010 is a brilliant time to be a gamer… especially if you’re unemployed and have far too much time on your hands. This month gamers on every platform have been catered for.

Xbox 360, PS3 and PC

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

BattleField Bad Company

BattleField Bad Company

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 features better online gameplay and reworked graphics, improved weapons, new smaller scale online modes and additional vehicles. These updates will add a new dimension to this already awesome game. As with the original Battlefield, environments are destroyable. Now though, Bad Company allows players to collapse buildings. All you “campers” consider yourself pretty vulnerable… that is enjoy the drop.

Major League 2K10

Major League Baseball 2k10 will be lots of fun, I guess, well if you’re into that sort of thing. Gameplay remains the same with a small tweak in graphics. As for the rest well I’ll let you decide.

Just Cause 2

Just Cause 2

Just Cause 2

Just Cause 2, a free-roaming sandbox styled game will be a must play. Improvements in AI will cause enemy units to use their surroundings to their advantage and adapt quickly to changing game circumstances. All you sadists out there have been catered for with realistic features such as crippling an enemy by shooting their legs out – fantastic. Large maps with environments that can be manipulated, gives every player a unique freedom when completing tasks. Added to this there will be a vast amount of vehicles and weapons available – to blow baddies legs off. Just Cause 2 looks to be a seriously exciting time killer, excuse the pun.

Xbox 360 & PS3:

Final Fantasy XIII

Final Fantasy XIII

Final Fantasy XIII

Final Fantasy XIII will almost certainly not disappoint; the expectations are far too great. Active time battle (ATB) has returned with a slight difference, whereby players can alter large numbers of attack commands and gain major attack bonuses. Summoning creatures will also feature. The new ability of characters combining with their summons to become an entirely different entity has been introduced. With stellar graphics, breath-taking environments and unmatched plot base, Final Fantasy XIII will undoubtedly be another award winner.

PS3 releases:

Yakuza 3

Yazuka 3

Yazuka 3

It looks like fun and has an awesome name! The fourth instalment of the Yakuza series; yes, I also thought that “3” meant it was the third instalment but apparently not. Much improved graphics and a new first person view will give Yakuza 3 slightly better depth. Gameplay in battle mode takes on many characteristics of Virtua Fighter 5. Thus, anyone can appear to have mastered the art of fighting even though their fingers tell the story of a ferret on crystal meth having a super-excited high.

God of War 3

God of War 3

God of War 3

Need I say more?
The end to this phenomenal trilogy brings a tear to my eye, seriously. That said God of War 3 is going to be, absolutely “mind blowing” I really try to be objective about games before I play them. But seriously, how can I when such an epic game is upon us. With button mashing, large weapon wielding and massive action gameplay God of War 3 promises to make history. With an increase from 15 onscreen enemies to 50 and the introduction of a few more weapons, fan or not you will find yourself glued to your remote. Gamer’s significant others I wish you good luck in trying to distract your partner from this violent, highly addictive, gore filled game.

PC releases:

Command and Conquer 4: Tiberium Twilight

C&C 4

C&C 4

Command and Conquer 4: Tiberium Twilight the end of the Tiberium series. No more resource collecting, believe it or not, and no more annihilating the enemy. Rather this new instalment forces players to capture nodes and hold them to win the battle, a sort of “capture the flag”. The GDI and NOD factions remain but the Scrin and the Forgotten become, well, forgotten. As with previous C&C’s, environments are aesthetically pleasing and commanding units remains the same. Thankfully, an improvement in the game engine allows for smoother large scale gameplay. Tiberium Twilight will definitely keep C&C fans happy.

Wii

Red Steel 2

Red Steel 2

Red Steel 2

Red Steel 2 allows you to bring a knife to a gun-fight, literally. Combining guns and swords in battle. As with most Wii games vast amounts fun and enjoyment will be had. Graphics, for a Wii, are very attractive. Deflecting bullets with your sword sounds like the coolest feature in the whole game! Red Steel 2 will offer a great single player experience, if they can successfully utilise Wii MotionPlus. If not, then it will fail dismally.
